In the run-up to the festive season, we wanted to focus on the most beautiful Christmas markets in the region. These are the cities that dress up in lights and smell of mulled wine and sweets.

Luxembourg City

In the capital, the Winterlights have been immersing the heart of the city in a magical and wonderful setting with its thousand and one lights since 19 November. The city has several Christmas markets spread over several sites. There is also a Ferris wheel on Constitution Street and a skating rink of about 800 square metres.

The magic of Christmas is set to take place in the capital until 2 January.

Esch-sur-Alzette

In the south of the country, the town of Esch-sur-Alzette is also dressed in lights. The town is decked out in its most beautiful illuminations and the Christmas market is taking place from 19 November to 22 December. It will be held on the Place de l’Hôtel de Ville, in the Rue de l’Alzette and on the Place de la Résistance.

Differdange

This is the oldest Christmas market in the country. For more than 44 years, the market has been bringing together the most festive lovers. The market takes place on the market square from 3 to 31 December. There are no less than 33 stands and 72 concerts during the Christmas market. And for the inauguration, the organisers have pulled out all the stops with a breathtaking drone show.

Dudelange

In Dudelange, the Christmas market has around forty chalets. All of them will be placed on the Place de l’Hôtel de Ville and will be decorated under the sign of the medieval era. It will be open from 6pm on 6 December until 15 December.

Outside Luxembourg’s borders

On the other side of the border, the Trier Christmas market in Germany continues to attract the attention of Christmas lovers. It is surely one of the most beautiful Christmas markets in the region, with the overhanging cathedral as its backdrop. For this 41st edition, the market will be open from 19 November to 22 December. What will win you over: the delicious regional specialities. The local “Winzerglühwein” (mulled wine) and “Glühviz” (mulled cider) are particularly popular with tourists from France and Belgium.

In France, the Christmas market in Metz also attracts many visitors every year. For more than 15 years, the city has been following the tradition of the successful Christmas markets in Eastern France. Several squares are invaded by the Christmas markets in Metz.
